About Ian James

Ian James decided to start an accessories line after making a few basic totes for family members one Christmas. The experience of evolving rudimentary shapes into a three dimensional utilitarian form was quite exciting. The Ian James brand began in early 2013 with small canvas pouches and minimal totes and evolved into a full collection of handbags, travel items, small goods, all made by hand in the living room of his Bronx apartment. After building the brand for two years in that apartment, Ian James has since created bags in a Miami studio, Sonoma, and is now settled in San Francisco, CA. At the heart of the designs are strong geometric shapes. The inspiration for every collection is the intersection of West Coast ease and East Coast structure to provide a unique yet functional collection. Having lived in both coasts, Ian continues to aim for that middle ground. The core mission of the brand is to create products that can withstand all aspects of life, from leisure, to business to travel, all while being effortlessly chic. Thanks to a very supportive client base, the bags continue to be a full made to order experience.Read their story
