An international story that takes root in a passion for pastry The Dr Oetker brand is one of the oldest in Germany, it was founded in 1891 in Germany, in the back room of a pharmacy in Bielefeld. Its founder developed a ready-to-use yeast powder and gave it the now-famous name of “Backin”. The pharmacist, August Oetker, then decided to promote his invention under his name “Oetker”, resonating as a guarantee of quality for the regulars of his pharmacy. Since his yeast was very successful, August Oetker decided to continue on this path and develop other kitchen utensils. In 1919, the Dr Oetker brand moved to France under the name Ancel. It then offers yeasts, sugars and ready-to-use dessert preparations for sale. Dr Oetker's research and development department continues its innovations by gradually offering cake mixes, pretzels and baking aids. It was in 1980 that Dr. Oetker really began his international expansion, and met with success in many countries. It was in 2007 that the French subsidiary Ancel became Dr Oetker France and marketed its products under this brand name, which was already famous across borders.
