About Sarah Horne Studio

For many years, I have worked as a children’s book illustrator for major and indie publishers. My work is known for that extra bit of funny detail, for anarchic characters, and for my strong drawing skills and characterisation. I love bringing an author’s vision to life, and the joy of catching their vision for a book and then adding a little of my own has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. I am a mark-maker—I love pattern and line and dots and dashes—and you will see this all over my work. While I’m not fussy about most things, when it comes to colour, this is where I get particular. My inner monologue is often a series of questions: "What kind of green is that?" "Does it have a tinge of blue in there?" "How is that colour made up?" The thrill of seeing a colour sit beautifully next to another—I’d never have thought of that combination!—is something that never gets old. Character, line, and colour have been the bedrock of my illustrative and artistic practice. This year, I have expanded beyond only illustrating children’s books for major publishers to creating my own products under a brand-new name: Sarah Horne Studio. I have made greeting cards for many different occasions, as well as art prints and products for kitchenware, bedrooms, and other home spaces. Based in London, UK, I can ship anywhere in the world.
