Born in Hanau in 1614, François de la Boë was a pioneer of his time. A time when the world seemed to be constantly expanding, new continents and cultures were being discovered, and the thirst for knowledge was greater than ever in human history. To this day, François de la Boë is considered the founder of scientifically oriented medicine. In an attempt to create a remedy for stomach ailments, he experimented with alcohol, mixing it with juniper and other herbal extracts, and accidentally invented the precursor to gin. Through William III of Orange-Nassau, it made its way from the Netherlands to the British Isles. From there, the unstoppable triumph of the juniper spirit began its journey around the world.
