About Blackbird Leather

Hello, I’m Danielle, the owner and maker behind Blackbird Leather. I live on the Isle of Wight with my husband and our two children, where every piece is thoughtfully handcrafted. My journey with leather began unexpectedly towards the end of 2019. One day, my husband came home from work with a small collection of leather and tools gifted to him by a neighbouring studio maker who was moving away. Naturally creative, he began experimenting and I found myself watching with growing interest. Before long, I decided to try it for myself. That first moment working with leather was when something truly clicked. I discovered a creative outlet I didn’t know I was missing, and I haven’t looked back since. What began as curiosity quickly grew into a passion, and then into a business rooted in craftsmanship, patience, and a deep appreciation for the material. Blackbird Leather is all about slow making and timeless design. Each item is made by hand with care and intention, designed to be used daily and to age beautifully over time. I take pride in creating leather goods that feel personal, practical, and made to last. Along the way, my work has been kindly featured in Christmas gift guides by Country Living magazine and shared by interior stylist and influencer Lisa Dawson, which has been an incredibly rewarding milestone for a small, independent brand. I regularly attend local, in-person markets, where I love meeting customers face to face and sharing the story behind my work. Read their story
