About Horlicks

Horlicks has been comforting families for over 150 years and was first developed by two British brothers in the late 1800s. J & W Horlick's Food Company was founded in Chicago in 1873 and first started producing Horlicks. In 1883 Horlicks patented the first ever malted milk powder in the US. As the temperance movement grew in the US, so did the amount of Soda Fountains. Horlicks was the first malt powder to be used In 1922, Walgreens employee Ivar “Pop” Coulson decided to add ice cream to malted milk, creating the first-ever malted milkshake Since then, the brand has supported explorers on the way to both poles, nourished soldiers through two world wars and fortified athletes in the Olympics. Horlicks is the original malt drink developed through a traditional process - part of which includes malting British grown barley and wheat.
