About Zak & Mac's Chocolate Haus
Our story started in 1981, when Gary "Mac" turned three summers of stirring fudge on Mackinac Island into a small candy shop on Main Street in Frankenmuth — Michigan's Little Bavaria. He bought the building, named it for his young son Zak, and built it on a simple idea: every customer gets treated like family. Forty years later, that storefront is still where it all happens. Small batches. Real butter. Real sugar. Recipes built by hand, not by machine. In 2016, Zak honored his dad by renaming it Zak & Mac's Chocolate Haus. Today we hand-craft over 70 sweets in the heart of Michigan — toffee, truffles, caramels, brittle, fudge, and our peanut butter Buttermitten Crunch — made the way they were before shortcuts existed. Every batch starts with sugar grown by Michigan farmers and refined by Pioneer Sugar, our partner just up the road. When you taste a Zak & Mac's product, you're tasting Michigan craftsmanship and a family recipe book that hasn't been outsourced. For decades, the only way to take a piece of Frankenmuth home was to walk through our front door. Now, for the first time, we're bringing tourist-storefront quality to retailers — shelf-ready, retail-priced, and backed by a real story your customers will remember. If you stock products with a sense of place and the quality that earns repeat baskets, we'd be proud to share shelf space with you. Choice Sweets. Made fresh in Frankenmuth. Since 1981.
