About Salt Grass Jewelry

Salt Grass – "A Love Letter to the Abundant Beauty of Nature" – was founded in 2016 by sculptural artist Kristi Frank Montaño. Her work reflects the rugged mystery of the Southwest and explores an ongoing narrative about beauty and self. She is known for producing elevated everyday classics and one-of-a-kind bridal and engagement jewelry. The name Salt Grass comes from Distichlis Spicata, a species of grass also known as desert saltgrass. It is common in the Americas and commonly found in the clay riverbanks of the Rio Grande. Salt Grass Jewelry is a reminder of our devotion to nature. We aim to create timeless jewelry that feels both modern and of the earth. Salt Grass embraces a slow-made ethos, prioritizing quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail over the unethical production of fast fashion and cookie-cutter designs that flood the industry. We use 75% recycled alloys for all our wholesale orders. Kristi’s work has garnered a loyal following and recognition, including a prestigious collaboration with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, where she is creating an exclusive collection – the museum’s first partnership with a jeweler due to launch November of 2024.
