Growing up, there was an African store in the neighborhood, Zambezi Bazaar, where my parents got every card for every occasion. I never forgot how it felt to hold something in my hands that was actually made for us. It felt like love in physical form. That feeling never left me. I carried that feeling with me into naming our family’s childhood cat. My brother and I were raised to name with intention, so I went straight to our yellow African naming book and found her name easily: Femi. Yoruba for love me. I chose it because I wanted to attract more love into my life. Many years later, I started Femi Cards for the same reason. I wanted to create something that felt like the act of sending and receiving love. Like holding love in your hands. I am a director by craft, and my goal was for you to see it, to feel it in every card. Stories told in a single frame. Love in grief. Love in friendship. Love in new life.
