Founded in 2016 by Laura-Marie Nixey, NIXEY is committed to creating beautifully-made leather goods & jewellery championing the skill and heritage of the British Isles. From Celtic mythology to Highland Warriors, NIXEY finds inspiration in the ancient histories that Britain & Ireland are built upon. How NIXEY began... I have always loved leather & how it improves with age. One of my most treasured possessions is a leather belt of my mum’s, from the 70s. A seed of an idea grew to design something in leather which touched on my own family heritage, spanning England, Scotland & Ireland. My Grandpa Jock grew up in Polbeth, just outside Edinburgh & although he spent much of his life in England he never lost his wonderful accent, which I loved listening to as a child. From thoughts of Grandpa Jock, I began researching Scotland’s history & in turn, the traditional sporran. Working for over a decade in the Arts & Craft industry, I‘ve always had a passion for the artisanship thriving in Britain. I wanted to find a traditional sporran maker to create my design & I was in luck when I found a wonderful workshop near the Highlands, who ever since have brought my ideas to life. NIXEY's Tree Zodiac jewellery began as a Covid lockdown pastime, when - like many of us - I turned to nature. Today, I run NIXEY from my home on England's south coast. We take regular family trips to Scotland & on every visit I take inspiration from its beauty & diversity.
