About Cocoa Cutie

Cocoa Cutie started because of an “Extra” Auntie’s need to find birthday presents for two little girls. One asked for a tutu, but being “Extra” Auntie, I can’t get just a tutu, so I wanted to find a black dancer or ballerina shirt to complete the look. I looked high and low, couldn’t find it. I've always liked drawing and doodling, so I decided to create them! My Why: Why do I do it? The world is becoming more and more visual every day. And although Words have Power, Visuals are POWERFUL. Cocoa Cutie depicts children of color doing the hobbies they enjoy such as dance, gymnastics, and taekwondo; the careers they aspire to be such as doctors, scientists, even president; and even their imagination of being a mermaid under the sea. Each Cocoa Cutie is one of a kind and is hand drawn by me. So, whether it’s in wearing a backpack or t-shirt that represents a child’s interest or doing an activity such as coloring or painting that contains colors that look like them. Cocoa Cutie is about making sure children of color are represented and celebrated. Read their story
