Stumbling upon the kalimba in 2025, Sharri quickly fell in love with the kalimba (or thumb piano) because it enabled her, one who is not musically adept, to quickly learn, play and enjoy making music! In addition, as one who struggles with mental health [issues], she finds playing the Mountain Melodies kalimba to be therapeutic. Shortly after this, Bill & Sharri Emmerling purchased Mountain Melodies, a leading manufacturer of kalimbas in the United States. It has been Bill’s life-long desire to make musical instruments. He enjoys working with his hands to shape wood and metal, while savoring the smell and feel of the wood as he shapes it, to produce instruments which others can enjoy. Mountain Melodies kalimbas are popular with children and adults, beginners and musicians. Our kalimbas are available in acoustic (standard) and amplifier-ready versions, making them great gifts for young and old alike. Our kalimbas can be found in gift shops, tourist destinations, and music stores. In a world filled with confusion and chaos, we need to take time to enjoy such things as playing kalimbas and finding the peace, joy and clarity that comes from slowing down and focusing on simpler things.
