Laura Renata Rubio grew up in a single-mom household, where she learned the value of hard work early — so early, in fact, that her mom was the first to fire her from a house-cleaning job at age 14. That’s when Laura realized she’d either be homeless or self-employed. She wisely chose the latter. When she arrived in Taxco, Mexico — a town famous for its silver — Laura expected doors to open. But her $400 didn’t stop the local soccer game or soap opera. Still, she left with a few pieces of silver jewelry, returned to Denver, and sold almost everything she brought back. That’s how it began. What followed was more than a business — it became a lifelong collaboration with artisan families in Taxco. The same families she met then still help bring her designs to life today, their exceptional craftsmanship passed from one generation to the next. Over 20 years later, the children of those early artisans are now parents themselves, continuing a tradition of creativity, precision, and pride.
