About Shachi Shah

I’ve been working with clay for about six years, and it has quietly become the way I make sense of the world. What started as curiosity has grown into a daily practice that keeps me grounded and always learning. Over the past six years, I have trained rigorously: two years at Golden Bridge Pottery in India and six months at Gaya Ceramic Arts Centre in Bali, immersing myself in wood firing, surface exploration, and collaborative making. These experiences gave me a strong technical foundation and affirmed my commitment to clay as my life’s work. My journey has taken me from the studios of Pondicherry and Bali to California, where I now continue my practice. Each place has shaped how I think about making, to pay attention, to trust the process, and to find balance between form and function. I create small-batch, handmade pottery for everyday use, with a focus on pieces that feel good in the hand and sit naturally in the home. I mostly fire in electric and gas reduction kilns, and whenever I get the chance, I wood fire. Each piece is made slowly and thoughtfully. Some hold traces of the firing, others of the day they were made. I hope they bring a sense of warmth, calm, and familiarity to your everyday rituals. Read their story
