Founded in the Midwest, Retrovert Candles was born from a lifelong love of art, history, and design. Our founders spent countless hours wandering the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, captivated by classic paintings, antique textiles, decorative arts, and the city’s rich architectural heritage. Those experiences shaped our belief that timeless design belongs in everyday life. Each Retrovert candle is a thoughtful blend of past and present. Our vintage-inspired labels showcase carefully selected public-domain artwork, historic textiles, and iconic patterns from throughout art history. Every design tells a story rooted in history, craftsmanship, and artistic tradition, bringing artistry into the home. While our inspiration looks backward, our materials are thoroughly modern. Every candle is hand-poured in small batches using sustainable coconut-apricot wax, phthalate- and paraben-free fragrances, and 100% cotton wicks for a clean, even burn. All components are American-sourced and thoughtfully chosen to be clean-air and pet-safe, so your space feels as good as it smells. We believe candles should be both beautiful and personal.
