In 2018, I had a costume prop that needed hundreds of little scales from EVA foam to make a scaled look (not too long before materials like that were widely available or cost effective for budget builders). I had been cutting each scale out with a craft knife, by hand, for a week, and wasn't done. Our local makerspace had just gotten a laser, an extra fee, 30 min of training later, and I am certified! Five minutes later and I have all 1000 scales (you always need extras just incase), perfectly cut, ready to be painted and glued. I fell in love - I'd never have to use scissors or a box knife or any precision object ever again! 2020 afforded me the opportunity and time to purchase my own laser and its been from there that I can explore creating and making things that would usually require a steady hand, and using materials that you couldn't cut by hand without more equipment. From there, I wanted to share the things I could make with others, and bring others some of the joy and excitement that making gives to me.Read their story
