Cicada Candle Co. uses 100% soy wax in all of their candles. Each one is hand-poured and each scent is created with their experiences - at home and across the country - in mind. Johnnie Shaneyfelt & Mallory Barnett live together in Birmingham, Alabama with their three pets. They started the business part of their relationship in 2017, with a curated men’s and women’s clothing and accessory store in Crestwood. When they took their next steps outside of that business, Johnnie knew he wanted to move on to his next creative venture pretty quickly, and the seed of Cicada Candle Co. was planted. Johnnie made his first candle in 2011 out of found thrift store jars. It only seemed natural to dig in to a craft he had found interest in so long ago. He picked it back up in 2018 and set up shop in their basement in May 2020.Read their story
