Put-Ups brings award-winning chef, television host, and author Vivian Howard’s pantry to your own kitchen. Celebrating the foodways of the south, Put-Ups takes a modern approach to traditional flavors that help you elevate dishes as easily as a slather or rub. Born in Deep Run, NC, to tobacco and hog farming parents, Vivian upbringing was steeped in the food traditions of her neighbors. After moving to New York to work in advertising, she soon transitioned to the city’s food and restaurant scene where she honed her culinary skill and love of food working in the kitchens of some of New York’s most esteemed restaurants and training under cutting-edge chefs. Vivian returned home to Eastern North Carolina to open her first restaurant, Chef & the Farmer, in Kinston in 2005. Vivian and her restaurants have won numerous accolades, including her selection as a five-time James Beard Foundation Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast. She is the host of the award-winning documentary television series, A Chef’s Life, that celebrates eastern North Carolina food traditions.Read their story
