About Federal Color

Federal Color is an art materials manufacturer and distributor that's built to support independent retail. We offer our own color products, made right here in St. Louis, including our professional-grade Tonic Watercolor and our permanent shellac ink, Optimist. All Federal Color paints and inks are lightfast and non-toxic, and each one is designed, milled, and packaged in-house. We're also importers — our retail store, St. Louis Art Supply, is best known for its collection of Japanese and European brands. Now we're bringing our sourcing expertise to the wholesale side of the industry, with a small but growing portfolio of imports that every art supply store needs. We stock the world's best artist tape (Nichiban, from Japan) and the gold standard in metal palette knives (RGM, from Italy). We carry cash wrap-friendly pencil displays and cool erasers. These are the little things that make specialty stores... special, and we're going to collect a lot more of them.
