About Ethnic Chic Jewlery

Ethnic Chic offers a cultural fashion experience though uncommon jewelry designs. Blending artisan African beads with pearls, gemstones and other traditional components, my designs present a contemporary take on traditional African style. Artisan ceramic beads handmade by women in Kenya and traditional recycled glass beads from Ghana offer a stunning array of colors and patterns that add an exciting element to Ethnic Chic Jewelry. I'm Ellen, and love all things African! Years ago I discovered Kazuri (small and beautiful) beads - a Fair Trade company in Nairobi that employs about 350 women - mostly single mothers - who get fair wages, child care and healthcare. The women make ceramic beads from the clay of the earth and hand paint them with a variety of designs. I want to share the beauty of these beads and help support their creators. This led me to discover other handmade African beads and further my appreciation of the culture - the music, the people, the scenery and the wildlife. I dream of going to Kenya to visit the women making Kazuri beads, as well as other beautiful African countries. i may even find myself on Safari someday! Read their story
