Hello! My name is Karen Johnson and I’m an alcohol ink artist based in Derby, UK. I'm self taught and I get my inspiration from spending time in my garden which I adore doing! I love to be still and just gaze at a flower, or a watch a ladybird balance on a dewy blade of grass. My two B&W cats, Jasper & Barney, always keep me company and encourage me to see the world in a different way. I have 3 ranges of colourful flower artworks - alcohol ink paintings called the Wild Garden Collection; digital mixed media pieces using my own paintings & drawings with photographic images called the Wild Collage Collection; and Wild Flora Collection. The Wild Garden Collection features my original paintings which I create using Promarker pens and 91% alcohol onto Yupo paper. I drip and blow alcohol onto the inks which allows them to bleed and disperse into each other creating beautiful watercolour effects, with the vibrancy and colour of acrylic paints. This range uses my signature style of bold blue skies and tangled grassy foregrounds, which form the perfect backdrop to a gorgeous bold flower. My Wild Collage Collection is a quirky combination of my paintings overlaid digitally with photos and drawings. I love to recreate hidden secret parts of a garden which have been forgotten about and lovingly and wildly reclaimed by nature! I try to infuse these designs with a sense of movement and depth.Read their story
