About The Loyal Workshop

The Loyal Workshop crafts high-quality, ethical leather goods. We exist to provide alternative employment to women trapped in Kolkata's exploitative sex trade. Every woman at Loyal has her own courageous story. Here, she’s not just earning a living: she’s working in a safe, supportive space, learning new skills, and building a brighter future for herself and her family. We’re proud members of the World Fair Trade Organisation, which means we’re held to high ethical standards and get regularly audited to make sure we’re doing right by people and the planet. More than providing a job, we offer counselling, debt help, healthcare, and six months of maths, English, and Bangla classes for new artisans. We also help make sure our artisans’ kids are in school. Every cent we make goes straight back into helping more women find freedom. The leather that we use is eco-tanned (the green alternative to chrome-tanned leather). We source our leather from the Shee Sen Tannery, a Leather Working Group Gold Rated tannery known for its strong environmental practices. We also choose non-leather materials locally whenever we can, keeping things simple, sustainable, and local. The bottom line for us is that we’re all about beautiful bags, slow fashion, and stories of freedom stitched into every piece. Read their story
