About Amani ya Juu
Amani ya Juu ("peace from above" in Swahili) is a non-profit organization that gives the opportunity for well-paid work to marginalized women in Kenya and Uganda. We began in 1996 with four refugee women sewing placemats together in Nairobi and have grown into a thriving sewing and reconciliation program for women from many different countries in Africa. The Amani Centers offer these women a place of peace, healing, growth, and employment so that they can provide for their families. The whole project is sustained through the sale of the beautiful products that these women make.
