Lost Generation is owned, designed, and 100% made by a Catawba woman in a home studio in Austin, TX. Leather goods connect back to her tribal roots, as does her desire to create practical elements that will last for generations. Lost Generation uses minimal shapes, a little personality, and great materials to share both a design vision and a set of values. Values passed down from two grandmothers: both from the Lost Generation themselves and the source of this brand’s name. They lived in very different American worlds, yet handed down the same skills and values. They both believed in seeking what you needed, but not in living for excess. And whether they bought or made the things they used in daily life, they took great care to ensure those goods would last forever. To honor their values and approaches to living, we design and make pieces that are versatile, serve multiple purposes, and are constructed so that they can be handed down to the next generation. Lost Generation uses all natural and processed natural textiles and skins to ensure that anything we create will degrade naturally without leaving the waste of petroleum products. Ironically, choosing these materials ensures that they will last longer and wear stronger during their long, usable lifetime than pieces made from synthetics would. Read their story
