Back in 2009, our owner, Kate, had a baby with lots of food allergies and health challenges. This meant that she (the baby) suffered from chronic diarrhea, constant diaper rash, and eczema. Kate ran her from doctor to doctor, none of whom knew how to help. They all suggested things that either didn’t work or made it worse. The last straw was when one doctor prescribed an antibiotic cream for the baby’s diaper rash. Not only did it not help the rash, it flared her eczema! Kate knew that there had to be something better that this! So, she dove into research, and created her first herbal remedy: a diaper cream. It cleared up the rash in hours, with no side effects. This formula eventually turned into our All-Purpose Salve. Over the next several years, Kate studied herbs, learned from other herbalists, and created more and more natural remedies for her own family — and then, her friends and community. She published some of her recipes and a lot of her research at Modern Alternative Mama to teach the wider community about natural health. In 2014, Kate was approached by Fair Winds Press to use her extensive knowledge to create a book of natural remedies for families. In August of 2015, her book, Natural Remedies for Kids, launched. Co-written by board-certified pediatrician and father of 8, Dr. Bob Zajac, the book has become a staple for people who are new to natural remedies. In the fall of 2016, Earthley as it is today was born. Read their story
