About Wheelwear My name is Mikaela Lastre, and since April 2016, I have been running the blog Wheelwear.se. My blog is about fashion and clothing for wheelchair users. Today, I run the company Global Wheelwear AB, where we manufacture clothing for wheelchair users. I am married to Kristoffer Fredriksson, who was born with a spinal cord injury. He is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair. Kristoffer, like many others, buys his clothes in "regular" stores because there simply aren't stores with adapted clothing. Since these clothes are not adapted for someone who sits down all the time, the fit of the clothes is often far from optimal. It involves everything from pants that slide down to jackets that ride up. Our first clothing collection hit the market last year. The collection includes jeans, a jacket, and dress pants. We have big plans to expand with collections for women, children, and youth, as well as a collection for sports and leisurewear. Clothing for wheelchair users is still a relatively unexplored part of the clothing industry, and therefore the competition is not quite as fierce as in the rest of the clothing industry. When it comes to this niche of the clothing industry, there is great potential, as there are about 5 million wheelchair users in Europe, more than 4 million in the USA, and 1.2 million in Australia. Every year, 500,000 people end up in a wheelchair due to violence, falls, or accidents.Read their story
