About joey notes

A baby kangaroo is called joey. Its mother's pouch provides a safe place for a joey to stay until it is ready to leave the pocket. We have our 'joey' inserts that are tucked inside each pocket waiting to be pulled out and get carried away. Joey Notes is the brainchild of Shenandoah Valley designer and College of William & Mary fine arts graduate Marsha Vayvada. The card line was inspired by a childhood memory of a jack-o-lantern card. “When you pulled on the stem, a card pulled out and I remember thinking, ‘That doesn’t work. That’s not clever.’” The pull-out card idea stayed with her when Marsha developed an invitation designed to look like a place setting. The idea was so well received, friends and colleagues encouraged her to try marketing it. Marsha confesses browsing card shops expecting someone else to have introduced her playful concept first. She decided to invest in her idea and Joey Notes was born. She and her creative team began exploring variations for the innovative format, dresser drawers that pull out, flowers that become a martini, etc. Joey Notes garnered Louie nominations and press coverage in trade publications. Unexpectedly, a key member of the Joey Notes' team, Nancy H. died and the company came to a halt. At the end of 2021, Marsha Vayvada launched a restart of Joey Notes. Joey Notes has jumped back into the market and is a member of the Greeting Card Association, GCA and active in the 2022 International "Thinking of You Week" committee.
