About Handsel and Petal

Handsel and Petal is a greeting card company started by myself (Joe) and my partner Claudia. We began trading under the name 'Art by Claudia and Joe' after creating a number of large paintings together. Yes that right, we paint side by side, swapping every half an hour or so. This collaborative technique led us to a few exhibitions, before we decided to turn our attention to putting our designs onto greeting cards. We built up our wholesale business by a 'boots on the ground' technique which saw us grow to 30 stores across Melbourne and the surf coast in 12 months. Our cards do not stay in one lane, instead we let our creative flag fly and ultimately aim to have a card for anyone and everyone. This gives wholesalers the option to stock only our cards, whilst maintaining a diverse collection. All of our cards are entirely compostable and come with an envelope which contains Native Australian flower seeds. This means that customers can scrunch up their packaging and grow a flower to remember the moment. We plan to expand into various items such as calendars, notebooks, pads, place mats, etc. in the near future. We create cards for anyone, and everyone.
