About J.Q. Dickinson Appalachian Mercantile
J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is a revival of a family business that started in 1813 on the Virginia frontier. Malden, WV sits on top of the remnants of the ancient Iapetus Ocean, one of earth's earliest seas. The salt has been dissolved by a fresh water aquifer. We draw this pristine brine to the surface with a well. It is solar evaporated, then hand harvested on the same family land that our ancestors used to make salt in the 1800's. The mineral rich salt has a unique, pleasing flavor and texture, renowned by chefs from around the country. We added a line of caramel sauces to pair with our salts, as well as 5 delicious spice blends. We expanded to be a Mercantile to carry amazing hand crafted items from other Appalachian producers. New products will be added frequently.

The simple yet beautiful kitchen tools are good sellers. I stock practical products that are handmade by craftsmen whenever I can find them. I sell hand thrown pottery cookware and display these with the pottery. They go together perfectly. My customers of course, appreciate that fact they are handmade and want to buy products that are made by American craftsmen. I hope they will continue to expand the kitchen tool line and so will I.
