Heartwood Toys began at our kitchen table—out of a simple question: what kind of toys do we actually want in our home? We couldn’t find them. Everything felt overbuilt, overdesigned, or disposable. Plastic toys that lit up, made noise, and then quietly disappeared into a bin a few weeks later. We wanted something different—objects that felt grounded, that invited imagination instead of replacing it, and that would still be worth keeping years later. So we started making our own. What began as a small, personal project quickly turned into something more. Friends asked for them. Then friends of friends. And somewhere along the way, Heartwood Toys took shape—not as a business first, but as a philosophy. We believe a good toy should do less, not more. It should leave space for a child to decide what it becomes. A tower one day, a castle the next. Something that grows with them instead of being outgrown. We also believe the materials matter. The feel of real wood in your hand. The weight, the grain, the imperfections that make each piece unique. Our toys are made to be held, passed down, and lived with—not thrown away.
