Claire Gelder used her love and passion of working with wool to found her business Wool Couture in 2015, aiming to inspire others to take up the centuries old pastimes of macrame, knitting, weaving and crochet by giving these timeless hobbies a twenty-first century makeover. We focus on exceptional and original designs and pattern writing and inspiring artisans across the world to make our products. In a world where so much of our work is intangible, with work and society sometimes being isolating and with work taking place on computers and in the digital world, making things with our hands and fingers gives us a feeling of control and mastery. It's a way of creating tangible order and beauty - a real sensory touchpoint — and bringing back a sense of free and relaxed play into our busy adult lives. So much so that knitting is fast being promoted as therapeutic practice by many experts.
