Nacogdoches is where John Henry Abercrombie's story began. All of his culinary dreams started in that East Texas city. John graduated from E.J. Campbell High School in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Commercial Foods from Prairie View A&M College in 1968. He married his college sweetheart, Juanita, and they moved to Houston in 1980. They have two sons and four grandchildren. John is the owner and operator of John Henry's Food Products, Inc., in Houston, Texas, founded in 1987. The company, located at 7676 North Freeway, Houston, manufactures Wood Flavored Dry Rubs, Barbecue Sauces, Marinades and Salsas. John Henry has published two cookbooks, "Backyard Grilling and Barbecuing," and "Backyard Grilling and Barbecuing - 2nd Edition," that he has dedicated to the food industry and his family. John taught at Houston Community College for 20 years, where he was the Head of the Department of Culinary Arts for many of those years. In 1989, he took a team of 19 chefs to Washington, DC to prepare Texas barbecue for President George W. Bush Sr., during his inauguration. He is a lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. John Henry's Food Products is the sponsor of the John Henry's Scholarship Foundation. This foundation was created to help culinary students obtain get financial assistance to continue their own dreams.Read their story
