About Holy Matcha

Holy Matcha was born from founder Geraldine Ridaura's personal journey after she could no longer drink coffee due to negative side effects. Her search for a healthier alternative led her to matcha, and a transformative 2014 trip to Japan where she witnessed the ancient tea ceremony ritual at its birthplace. Inspired by the Zen monks who drank matcha for lasting energy during meditation, and frustrated by having to order quality matcha online, Geraldine returned to San Diego with a mission to open the city's first dedicated matcha café in 2016. The result was a striking North Park space featuring bold millennial pink walls and tropical accents that proved "pink and green should never be seen" was a rule meant to be broken. More than just an Instagram-worthy café, Holy Matcha reflects Geraldine's commitment to wellness with its 100% dairy-free, plant-based menu, while also serving as a cultural bridge that brings an ancient Japanese ritual to modern San Diego.Read their story
