About Telle of the Hills

Telle of the Hills is handcrafted in the Appalachian mountains by Telle ter Horst. My designs pay homage the beauty of the natural world and evoke a sense of timelessness. Having spent half my formative years in the woods of the southeast and the other half in big cities, my creative musings are a balance of earthy ruggedness and refined modernity. My last name comes from my Dutch lineage and means "of the hills." Every piece I make is crafted by my hands. I like to create as much from scratch as possible, such as my signature ear wires. I source materials from suppliers who emphasize ethical practices, and I am committed to minimizing the amount of waste produced from my small studio. When I'm not in the studio, I am outdoors as much as possible. My yard is filled with curious creatures, a vegetable garden, and a growing native plant collection. I am passionate about preserving the unique biodiversity of the Appalachian mountains, and about supporting local food systems. I donate annually to organizations in my area that focus in these areas.Read their story
