It began with an egg—Jim Schatz’s first lamps radiated light and playfulness, soon joined by birdhouses and feeders that invited nature into design. From this small spark, a universe of ceramic work emerged. In 2014, designer and maker Peter Souza joined Jim, bringing new textures, forms, and earthbound contrasts to the glossy perfection of J Schatz classics. Their collaboration—both personal and professional—unites precision with raw expression, producing work that is refined yet unapologetically handmade. Together, Jim and Peter have built studios across the country, finally settling in Detroit among a new generation of artists and makers. Wherever they land, the spirit remains the same: fearless, experimental, and rooted in wonder. Each piece we create is Wonder-Certified™ — a promise that it carries beauty, joy, and problem-solving ingenuity.
