It began with a scent… and then a memory. Aerangis (Air-ANG-giss), a fragrance company, was born out of a moment in time when founder Alicia Tsai was a nine-year-old girl in Taiwan, spending time in her grandfather’s garden. It was then that Alicia’s grandfather introduced her to the alluring Aerangis orchid. The crisp, white, star-shaped flower, surrounded by lush, green leaves, emitted a scent that was fresh and clean, but also delicate and elegant. From that moment on, the fragrance of the Aerangis flower was forever intertwined with the memory of Alicia’s beloved grandfather and their special time spent together in the garden. It is this profound connection, between memory and fragrance, that spurred the concept of documenting one’s life’s moments through scent - whether that is ours or yours - through hand-crafted luxury candles and other fragrance offerings. Alicia took Aerangis from concept to company in 2017. The Taiwan native-turned-New Yorker is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Cosmetics and Fragrance Program in New York City, the same city where Alicia spent the past five years working alongside top industry leaders in fragrance production. Like Alicia’s own garden memory of her grandfather, Aerangis’ signature and bespoke collections use fragrance to tell a well-crafted story about a moment worth recalling.
