About Global Girls

Global Girls’ products are completely handcrafted primarily by women artisans in Kenya. Our mission is to support African women by providing much-needed jobs for talented artisans at fair-trade wages. Global Girls specifically seeks to provide employment for disenfranchised women and promote the traditional crafts they make. Since our founding in 2008, we’ve learned that empowering women is fundamental to effecting positive changes in health, education and families. Global Girls' believes in the importance of fair trade and in the value of jobs instead of hand-outs. A job that provides a living wage is crucial to empowerment and to promoting a sense of self-worth, which in turn, helps people move away from a culture of welfare and towards self-reliance. Many of the artisans with whom Global Girls works are single mothers, some are physically challenged or may have health issues. We also employ many men who contribute an integral part of the sandal and belt making process, including beadwork. While we’re committed to helping women help themselves, we believe just as strongly in the quality of our products! That our products are found in upscale stores worldwide is but one of the many rewarding aspects of our business. We’re most proud of the lives that have been changed for the better and that our work force has grown from five artisans at the beginning to over 50 talented individuals who count on regular work nowadays.
