About Painting the Music

Music...in 100% silk. These scarves are printed with images of my paintings of music. These paintings translate what is beautiful and moving in the language of sound into the language of sight so it can be enjoyed in both. My paintings that pursue the concept of visualizing music in shape and color is a synthesis of my studies in the performing arts as a classically trained musician and my lifelong study as an artist. I begin these paintings by intensive study of a particular composition. After deciding what part if the piece I want to paint, I "conduct" the music with a pen creating the lines which give me the shape and energy of the music. Then I add the color that I "see" in the music. Often in performance, musicians will use color to describe the mood of the moments of music.
