GOOJ is created by Teveen and Lori Demirjian. Gooj translates to the Armenian word for “clay vessel,” used from 4100 B.C. to transport water from mountain streams or store large amounts of wine during celebrations. The gooj became such a nuanced part of Armenian communities as Armenian women would balance them atop their shoulders for miles on foot. Our debut collection in argil is born out of real stories told on long, wooden dinner tables where old-world vessels pour wine into medieval era goblets. GOOJ is a bow to the Armenian highlands and its many historical kingdoms of rich tradition. Welcome to our world, where modern antiquity comes to the table and graces the hosting space of all creatives.
