My mother has always been extremely enthusiastic about health and wellness. Well, it didn’t actually start out that way. In her mid-twenties, after becoming ill and developing debilitating blisters on her hands and in her mouth, which was later confirmed to be Stevens-Johnson Syndrome a rare, but serious disorder of the skin and mucous membranes, she decided that her health would become a priority. So, as the caretaker of our family, not only did this mean her health, but by default our entire family’s health as well. This meant that within a short period of time, we swapped hamburgers for tofu and chicken for peanuts. A few years later, as my mother was walking home from running errands, she fell. There was nothing that prompted it; she just fell. Despite being slightly embarrassed she stood up, brushed herself off and headed into the house. Within a few weeks, she noted having dizzy spells, frequently feeling weak, and eventually needing to wear an eye patch due to her blurred vision. After nearly a year of testing and hospitalization, she was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). My mother’s MS diagnosis shook our family at its core. Being so young we didn’t understand what it meant, but we knew that we were going to provide as much support as possible and in any way that we could. After researching the condition, which we discovered did not have a cure, her quest to live healthier grew exponentially. It was from this that NaBii Organics was born.
