The Social Dept. is Grammy Nominated Midwest based studio that specializes in hand-screened clothing, home goods, and poster prints. A true Mom and Pop shop owned and operated by Christy (Mom) and Andy (Pop) Taray. We take a lot of pride in our process and work hard to develop ideas from hand drawn sketch to the final handprinted item. Our catalog of nearly 400 designs has a little bit of everything for people from a little bit of everywhere depicting regional, state and municipal pride in our country’s diverse food, beer, sports, and ethnic culture. The company was founded in 2006 while living in Brooklyn, New York when we came up with the idea of starting a company that would help preach the pride of historically rich, yet maybe nationally slighted, cities like our hometown of Akron, Ohio. We love where we we grew up and wanted to help spread the word. Graphic Designer & Fashion Designer by trade, we loved the challenge of stepping away from our day jobs and using a little elbow grease to turn our sketches and thoughts into wearable conversation pieces. Each item is built with old-school printmaking, strong typography, and a love for finding that unique element that defines each individual location. The company has been, and will continue to be, a passion-based brand with a love of making products come to life with a little midwest work ethic and a whole lotta love. Read their story
