Ametsuchi is a Japanese made scalp and hair care brand based here in California. Our founder has owned salons for many years, and kept hearing the same thing from the stylists and clients: people were struggling with scalp discomfort from harsh shampoos and heavy styling products, but didn’t really have an option that felt both gentle and effective. To solve that, she created Ametsuchi and launched it first in her own salons here in California. Our concept is simple: start with the scalp, keep the formulas clean and minimal, and bring in Japanese ingredients and sensibility. We work with Japanese labs and build everything around an omotenashi mindset, which is the Japanese idea of quiet, thoughtful hospitality—really paying attention to comfort and small details so the person using the product feels cared for. Hinoki cypress is at the heart of the line. It’s been used in Japanese baths and temples for generations, and for us it’s both the base of our signature scent and a naturally purifying, comforting presence for the scalp. Our formulas are sulfate free, silicone free, and paraben free, with a high level of Japanese botanical ingredients and silk-derived actives like apple stem cell extract, cherry blossom leaf, peony root, aloe, chlorella, and soy to support the scalp while keeping the hair soft and light.
