The Lake Erie Candle Company was officially born in the backroom of our family’s Port Clinton, Ohio retail store, Cruisin’ Tunes. Ian was discussing candle making with his mother, Tamara, and got her interested in trying it out. Quickly after buying some supplies and experimenting, Tamara had a newly found hobby. Ian suggested that she create and test a small line of candles in her store to sell sometime that summer and she did. Naturally, given the region, we wanted to create a fun nautical theme representative of the beauty and love of the Lake Erie region. We tested out a small line of candles in our Port Clinton, Ohio store and they were a huge hit. Quickly our candle business grew and our candles can now be found in retail stores across Ohio and Pennsylvania. You can find our candles in both big and small companies, from nationally owned Whole Foods Market to small local mom and pop shops that make up the backbone of our country. We wanted to design safer, local, American-made candles inspired by themes across Lake Erie. Our physical design pulls from rustic and nautical elements and reflects our approach in creating natural candles made from 100% American-grown soybeans, recyclable containers, and quality phthalate-free essential oils and scents.Read their story
