I’m Stevie, the wild woman behind Kraken Apothecary. I began studying herbalism in 2008 and making my own products in 2010 after making a major lifestyle change and not being able to find suitable replacements for the products I had been using. As I purged my home of petroleum byproducts, harsh chemicals, overly scented items, and hormone disruptors I became aware of how far they’ve invaded our everyday lives. I started selling my wares in 2018 to help other people make the switch to a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle. I've always been driven to try and make the world a better place and I try to do so by making sure my life and my products are as sustainable as possible. I focus on purchasing from sustainable sources, small, and women owned businesses for the things that I have to buy if I cannot grow or make it myself. For example, the shea butter I use in several of my products comes from its native Africa. The company, is a fair trade, women owned co-op that has their own sustainability model; this compounds our efforts to make the world a better place. I absolutely hate planned obsolescence or things designed to run out in order to make you immediately run out and buy more. It drives me wild when I purchase something just to repurchase it shortly thereafter. If you run the numbers, you’ll see those sorts of products can really make a dent in the family budget.
