About Komakai Jewelry

Aloha! My name is Chun and I am the founder and designer of KOMAKAI Jewelry. I was inspired to create a line of jewelry after visiting Japan in 2014. Jewelry in Japan is understated, feminine and shows a level of craftmanship and detail that was missing in the marketplace at home. I wanted to bring that aesthetic to Hawaii while incorporating the ocean and island life. KOMAKAI is a play on words - "Komakai" means “detailed, fine” in Japanese. Also, “Makai” means “towards the ocean” in Hawaiian. Each piece is designed with this meaning in mind and handmade out of the designer’s home studio minutes away from the iconic beaches on the south shores of on Oahu, Hawaii.Read their story
