As summer winds down and school-year routines resume, shoppers get that itch to refresh their wardrobes. They tuck away those jelly flats, butter yellow tops, and mini skirts, and pull out items for cooler days ahead. That means it’s time to stock up on your pre-fall apparel and accessories now.

Below you’ll find five key wardrobe trends we anticipate will drive your pre-fall sales this year. Backed by Faire’s unique data insights, we have everything you need right here as you begin your product discovery—plus, some surefire bestsellers too.

Mustard Seed | Attentif Paris

Capes and ponchos

The boho-chic trend we identified earlier this year shows no sign of stopping, and the fashion poncho is our pick for the cozy season’s top trend. Case in point: The search term “poncho” on Faire has begun its seasonal climb (and in July it was up 39% year over year), and the term “cape” jumped 20% from June to July.

Refinery29 reports that cape jackets are the next new outerwear trend, and Marie Claire describes how capes can be seen everywhere from runways to the streets, worn by celebrities, and designed to be endlessly versatile (as theatrical or as sleek as you wish).

So as you stock your shelves, think about your clientele. For the boho set, try this vibrant terracotta poncho for chilly evenings or this easy-to-throw-on cape that comes in a slew of colors. This asymmetrical poncho is giving us serious Toteme vibes. Perhaps they might want the structured, work-ready look of this cape jacket from Attentif Paris or one a bit more breezy (but equally as sophisticated), like this vegan cashmere cape. And for those who want to bring a little sport to their outerwear (while still feeling fashionable), we love this quilted puffer cape that’s perfect for throwing on for a day of errands.

Barrel jeans

Fitted on the waist, wide on the thighs, and tapered at the ankles, barrel jeans are an architectural marvel—to some. The controversial cut isn’t beloved by all. That being said, it’s been gaining steam over the past year, and for those who love a little edge in their look, it’s just the right fit.

We noticed searches for “barrel jeans” on Faire rising in August 2024. Now, searches are up 48% month over month and 112% year over year.

While the barrel leg may be controversial, it’s all over fashion magazines (from Harper’s Bazaar to Marie Claire), runways, and even movies—yes, Anne Hathaway is reportedly wearing them in the latest The Devil Wears Prada movie, according to InStyle

Not sure where to get started with the barrel look? Try these relaxed barrel jeans with an eye-catching side panel or dark-wash barrel jeans with a more casual cuff. We can’t get enough of these high-rise barrel-leg jeans with button accents on the cuffs. And should you want to go beyond denim, try these slouchy barrel pants, which come in a range of colors, from black to caramel, camel, and white.

(P.S. Even if barrel jeans are too much for your shoppers, wide-leg pants are still trending too: Searches for them were up 26% month over month in July.)

Mock-neck tops

Searches for “mock neck” were up 159% month over month in July—and we’re pretty sure we know why. Perhaps it’s that status mock-neck sweatshirt Parke introduced last year. Or that Meghan Markle and Joanna Gaines are fans of the flattering, sophisticated style.

When Who What Wear asked a former longtime Nordstrom VIP stylist about her anticipated 2025 trends, she said, “Mock- and turtlenecks are wardrobe essentials I’ll be wearing this season. They always feel timeless and chic, especially when layered under a leather jacket, blazer, or wool coat for a polished look.”

Here are a few of our favorite mock-neck tops that are sure to be bestsellers, whether you’re going for cool and casual or dressy and polished.

Frem | Lost Pattern NYC

Silk scarves

Silk scarves have long been a marker of luxury and good fashion sense. “It’s the hard-working, versatile accessory that can transform an entire look,” says Net-a-Porter in a recent fashion memo. And while you may be used to seeing scarves wrapped around a bag, a neck, shoulders, or hair, the new way to wear this timeless accessory is around your waist. “Fashion insiders have been opting for shorter lengths on the street—scarves that sit somewhere between a skirt and a belt,” the fashion pub reports.

Whether you’ve attended fashion week runway shows or you’re obsessed with celebrity fashion (Alexa Chung, Jenni Lee), it’s clear that the scarf trend will be here beyond summer. Want to keep up? This large satin scarf would double as an excellent pareo over a pair of jeans, as would this one that comes in a rich forest green. If you’d like smaller silhouettes, try these skinny scarves for belting, which come in an array of prints, from equestrian-inspired to paisley. If your shoppers want an animal-print moment, here’s a leopard-print scarf—and one more scarf with actual leopards too.

Skorts

Searches for “skorts” on Faire have increased 240% since December of this year, and our millennial hearts are very excited about it. Taylor Swift loves a skort, so does Kaia Gerber, and so does Olivia Rodrigo—and what’s not to love? A skort brings together the best of the trendy mini skirt and the function of a great pair of shorts. You look fashionable, and you can get more done. Perhaps that’s why Vogue says “the skorts obsession is going nowhere for 2025.”

Want to bring some skorts into your shop? Here are some of our favorites:

  • A denim skort: This sweet little mini with three asymmetrical buttons gives Barbie vibes in all the best ways.
  • Scallop-edged skort: Feminine details make this skort an everyday staple.
  • Bubble-hem skort: The bubble hem of this skort gives it a playful flounce for end-of-season garden parties and get-togethers.
  • French terry skort: Skort style meets your favorite sweatshirt.
  • Faux suede wrap skort: A dressed-up option for cool nights out.
