Description
The name Ada Lovelace may not link automatically to computer science, but she was the first to create a computer algorithm. Working with scientist Charles Babbage, Lovelace translated notes on Babbage’s mechanical computer, The Analytical Engine, discovering it could be programmed for more than mathematical calculations. A mathematical genius, Ada was the only legitimate child of poet Lord Byron and faced great scrutiny. Abandoned by her father at four weeks old, she endured a strict childhood under her mother, who aimed to prevent Ada from inheriting the so-called Byron madness. She was pushed towards logical subjects like science and mathematics. Did this strict approach work? Or did Ada inherit more than her genius from her father? Ada was a daughter, wife, and mother, but above all, she was an inspirational woman who defied Victorian ideals by entering mathematical studies and achieving greatness still recognized today.
