Description
The handcraft was named after a trade settlement Khokhloma, where craftsmen had been known for making and selling their handmade goods between the 18th and 20th centuries. The art styles and the bright colors make Khokhloma art look amazingly distinct. The creation of Khokhloma is a hard and long process. By using tin, extreme heat, and lacquer, artists were able to create the appearance of a gilded gold finish – they apply a silver-tin powder on a product before their trip to the kiln, so that the product gets a honey-golden color. Each piece is hand-decorated with heat-resistant mineral paints. After the painting is done, the piece gets a generous coating of lacquer.
