One source states that Ocimum africanum is a natural hybrid formed by a cross of Ocimum americanum x Ocimum basilicum. Temperate Tulsi is closely related to other Tulsi strains, with similar actions, and a citrusy, spicy flavor. Key components include essential oils such as linalool, nerol, geraniol, citral, icocaryophyllene, and humulene. In Ayurvedic medicine, Holy Basil is highly valued as a tonic and adaptogenic tea, an “elixir of life,” normalizing kapha and vata doshas. Traditional uses include bronchitis, rheumatism, fever, epilepsy, asthma, hiccups, coughs, skin diseases, infections and parasites, neuralgia and headaches, wounds, inflammation, gastric and hepatic disorders."
