Saperavi is one of Georgia's oldest and most iconic grape varieties, with a history that dates back over 8,000 years. Its name, which means “dye” or “color” in Georgian, reflects its unique characteristic: it is a dye grape, which means that the flesh and skin of the grapes are both red, offering wines with a deep and intense color. Native to the Kakheti region in eastern Georgia, Saperavi has been used for centuries to produce wines that are robust, tannic and capable of aging for many years. This grape variety is well resistant to difficult weather conditions, making it a preferred choice for local winemakers.
